This lot includes two Shield nickels and one United States two-cent piece, representing early designs from the post-Civil War era. Shield nickels were minted from 1866 to 1883 and were the first five-cent coins made from a copper-nickel alloy. The two-cent piece was introduced in 1864 during the Civil War and was the first U.S. coin to bear the motto “IN GOD WE TRUST.” These historic coins offer a glimpse into an important period of American coinage.
