From the auction house
Leo Hodroff began his journey into collecting in the mid-20th century, a pursuit that began with Chinese export porcelain and evolved into a lifelong commitment to acquiring works of extraordinary rarity and quality. Alongside his wife, Doris, he assembled what would become the world?s preeminent private collection of Chinese export porcelain. Their collecting practices expanded beyond export porcelain to extraordinary works that showcase the breadth and talent of artisans in Asia with works that were produced for domestic use. Their passion for collecting was matched only by their dedication to public enrichment. The Hodroffs shared their treasures generously, establishing dedicated galleries at the Minneapolis Institute of Art, Winterthur Museum, Norton Museum, and the Mayo Clinic. Their legacy is further immortalized in scholarship through David S. Howard?s definitive volumes, ?The Choice of the Private Trader? and ?Made in China.? Revere Auctions is honored to present this exciting sale of Asian art from the Collection of Leo & Doris Hodroff. In keeping with the family?s spirit of generosity, proceeds from this auction will benefit the University of Minnesota.
