On August 7th, Toomey & Co. is proud to present An American Palette: Paintings by Arnold Blanch. This single-artist offering features nearly fifty works from an accomplished figure whose career spanned Modernism, Regionalism, and beyond. A Minnesota native, Blanch studied at the Minneapolis School of Art before serving in World War I and training further at New York's Art Students League under John Sloan and Robert Henri. Settling in Woodstock in 1923, Blanch became a leading figure in the renowned artist colony, earning acclaim for his landscapes, still lifes, and scenes of everyday American life. During the 1930s and 1940s, he received a Guggenheim Fellowship, completed New Deal mural commissions, and taught at several prominent art schools around the United States. In later years, his style grew more abstract through simplified forms and expressive color. Examples of Blanch's work are now held by various distinguished museums.
