New England Auctions' September 16 sale is anchored by an extensive collection from the estate of David Pease (1932?2018), dean of the Yale School of Art (1983?1996), and his wife, artist Julie Jensen Pease, featuring both their own work alongside decades of gifts and portfolios of work from the students, faculty, and friends in Pease's circle. The sale is rich with Yale/New Haven/Hartford, Connecticut connections, including works by and gifts from the following artists: Chuck Close, Paul Rand, Philip Guston, Richard Hamilton, Robert Rauschenberg, Robert James Reed, the Yale School of Art's first tenured African American professor; Kehinde Wiley, with a rare 1999 work from his own Yale MFA studies; Josef Albers and his student Norman Ives, both longtime Yale School of Art faculty; New Haven-born narrative painter John Hull; Yale-educated Deane G. Keller; and Wolf Kahn.
